Last week, my partner
and I took the train
downtown to see
the new musical
A Band’s Visit
and what a
pleasant surprise it was.
With a revolving
stage and an equally
revolving cast
of misfits and oddballs
(a man who stares
at a payphone,
a composer with
an unfinished symphony),
the show seamlessly spirals
and turns like
a quiet fever dream.
This might be
the softest musical
I’ve seen, and I mean that
in a good way. Hushed
and comforting.
Dealing with loss,
love, and the confusion
that bubbles between,
this mesmerizing play
is one I’ve been
thinking about
ever since leaving
Cadillac Palace Theater
last week. Enjoy
the soundtrack
before and after
you check it out
for yourself!
