It's been an enjoyable
time following
the movements
and releases of Chicago
artist Ajani Jones.
The rapper linked
with producer
Banks the Genius
at the end of 2016
for their collaborative EP,
Astrals. It was one
of the first posts
on this blog
and I've been
trying to keep up
with Jones ever since.
We've heard loose
singles, Sofar Sounds
performances, a full-length
tape, Eternal Bliss,
and now this:
Cocoons.
The six song EP
is a cohesive rap
release featuring
only one vocalist
(Kweku Collins)
and production from
BoatHouse, Noah Sims,
Banks the Genius,
X-Ray, and Sebastian Kamae
(aka some of Chicago's
finest beatsmiths).
It's a cold first release as part
of the Closed Sessions
team and it's a welcome
new chapter to a rapper
with a strong background
and plenty more
on the way.
